Llañucancha. Turn territorial knowledge into usable technical evidence.

In the Llañucancha Rural Community in Abancay, the work began before the product: by understanding the territory. The ethnobotanical study connected local knowledge, field visits, species identification and recording, sample collection and initial transformation trials with medicinal and aromatic plants.

THE CHALLENGE

Start with the right question.

The challenge was to document ethnobotanical knowledge through a participatory process and turn part of that information into characterized materials that could progress to further technical testing without losing their connection to the territory and its knowledge.

THE PATH

Connected capabilities to move forward.

The sequence was not designed as a list of services. Each stage responded to a specific project need.

01

Listen

Participatory work and information gathering with local knowledge holders from the community.

02

Explore the territory

Field observation, species recording and collection of materials in their environment of origin.

03

Characterize

Prioritization, identification and documentation of medicinal and aromatic plants of interest.

04

Transform

Steam distillation and production of standardized essential oils for integration trials.

EVIDENCE

Evidence to guide the next stage of research.

The territorial work produced a documented base of species, samples and preliminary results that helps define what to characterize, validate or investigate next.

CASE INSIGHT

Research the territory before designing a solution.

The experience made it possible to move from local knowledge and field observation to samples obtained through steam distillation. Muñas, mints, wahuillay and wormwood were studied, creating a technical base for future integration and development trials.

CAPABILITIES ACTIVATED

What this case puts into practice.

These capabilities can be activated together or separately in other projects, depending on the starting point and objective.

WHAT IT DEMONSTRATES

A capability that can be transferred.

Llañucancha demonstrates that territorial innovation can begin before the product: by building a useful knowledge base to explore future value opportunities without losing the connection to the territory.
